One major part of securing a new job is the interview.

The interview is reached after you have successfully submitted your CV and letter of application. The employer will have received your information after you made your application online or via a recruitment agency.

The interviewer will have initially only have seen your CV, before meeting you in person. As a good CV is your only way of securing an interview you must ensure it is written well, with good spelling and grammar.

The interview is where the employer can see the person behind the CV and get a feel for their personality and achievements.Interviewers commonly ask to describe your previous role and what you have achieved with your last employer. An interviewer may be interested in learning about how you dealt with certain work situations and how you learned to overcome any problems.

Family and social life may also be discussed, so the interviewer can get a feel for your personality and how you interact with others.

You will be asked to describe your ideal career path and discuss why you would like to work for that particular employer. If you are being interviewed for vacant John Lewis job vacancies, tell them why you like John Lewis as a company.

Companies like to understand how driven applicants are, and if they are serious about working for their organisation.

There will usually be a salary budget in place, which is why you are expected to discuss your salary expectations during the interview.Salaries can often be negotiated, so go in with a figure and have another figure in mind which you would be willing to accept.
When the interviewer has finished with their questions try asking some of your own.

Asking questions gives you the opportunity to learn more about the job and the company.

If there are no more questions, the interviewer will then end the meeting and call the applicant back if the person has passed the initial interview so that the next phase of the application process can begin.
