A good place to start yourpart time job hunt is on a website like www.jobsvacancies.org A part time job is ideal for people who are still at school, as the hours are generally more convenient. When applying for a part time job, here are some tips one must remember when going up to a potential employer;
• You should always have a copy of your CV ready, which should be fully up to date. You should write a CV even if you have never worked before. Your CV is the place from where you should really sell yourself, so detail your skills and achivemenets in work or your personal life.
• If you are invited to attend an interview you must dress appropriately. Being well presented doe not just involve your clothes, so ensure your hair and nails are also neat and tidy. The outfit worn should be smart or be business casual. If you are dressing casually, wear a smart polo shirt with a good pair of trousers or a well cut skirt. Keep your shoes clean and matching your outfit and don’t wear too much jewellery.
• Finding a new job is never easy, and you have to be prepared for a few rejections. This is nothing personal but some employers will prefer someone who has some experience. Even if one is rejected, the person must not give up in getting that part time and move on to the next potential employer.
• A firm handshake and genuine sincerity are vital whilst in an interview. There is only so much one say in interview so it is best to practice in selling to the person the strengths one possesses in order to get that job.
• In the course of going from one employer to another, the employer will not give the answer at once if the person is hired or not. Other applicants will still be interviewed before making that decision. Try and keep a list of where you have applied and when. Then follow up any applications in writing or over the phone.
Remember, part time jobs are often advertised locally, so keep your eye on local notice boards or newspapers. Supermarkets are great part-time employers, look online by typing in ASDA job vacancies for a list of results.
