Money Is Not Happiness September 13, 2009

Quite frankly I do not care because in this article, I write about what in my humble opinion are the most important things in life — health and happiness.
The common conversation you’ll hear are always about money…
What car do you drive?
How much is your house worth?
How much do you earn?
How much did your suit cost?
Where are you going on holiday this year?
I find all of this rather sad — they seem to be in some sort of competition and they are basically obsessed about money.
Does this means money is not important? No. But other things are more important and yet, the society has treated money to be the key to happiness.
For me the two most important things in life are health and happiness. These are two things which money can not buy. Here’s the proof – there are people who have a lot of money and yet live in depression. Ironically, there are those who had next to no money and have been extremely happy.
Money gives ‘certainty’, which is why, many misinterpret that as happiness.
You see, change, which is uncertainty has a very negative connotation for most people. On a deep emotional level we are creatures of comfort and we automatically seek out that which feels good in the moment. We long for comfort and this usually comes from that which we know; that which is familiar to us.
Once we can comfortably deal with and “know” all the “unknowns” we can “relax” because your nervous system and your mind is designed to find and attach a meaning(s) to everything and therefore something new is always a confrontation between that which is and that which will be in your mind.
If you’re not certain, it’s hard for you to be happy, right?
What you are comfortable with represents your comfort zone which includes all the experiences that you can comfortably deal with. If you don’t expand this “zone” then you simply won’t expand yourself as a person. The need to grow and become more as a person, is a deep emotional need that all humans have.
Without growth you simply won’t be happy. All growth, although it feels uncomfortable in the moment always feels immensely fulfilling in the long term and it is this feeling that we all really crave for; the feeling that we call “good”. You can do something that feels comfortable and “good” in the moment by staying with what you know, but true fulfilment comes from pushing beyond your comfort zone and creating a sense of pride in yourself.
Growth means change and change involves risk and risk is the process of stepping from the known to the unknown.
The truth is that all of life is constantly in a process of change. Nothing ever stays the same. It is the nature of all of life, including you and happiness. Even if you do nothing life will still change. For you to progress, you have to decide to consciously initiate and create the change.
All change starts with a change of mind that will lead you to find happiness. You have to start by changing your thoughts about what you want to change. In changing the way you think about something you immediately change your perception and consequently the way you feel about it.
Change your mind and the rest will follow! Soon, the secret to happiness will appear in front of you but if you don’t change, then you simply won’t grow and if you don’t grow you are not really living.

Creating Happy Thoughts In Seconds September 3, 2009
Posted by janey in : achieving happiness , comments closedPause for a moment. What were you thinking about a moment ago? How did that thought make you feel?
It is very important that we realize the relationship between our thoughts and the way we feel. Did you know that we are constantly thinking? Take breathing for example. Unless we feel that we are running out of breath, we simply forget that we breathe automatically.
Thinking works the same way. Since we are always doing it, it is easy to forget that it is happening. To think is to create. Everything starts in the mind. What precedes the feeling of anger? Angry thoughts precede anger. Have you tried getting angry without having angry thoughts first? Try feeling sad without sad thoughts. It is impossible!
In order to experience a feeling, we must first have the thought that induces that feeling. Happiness cannot exist alone. To find happiness, It is the result of positive thinking. This simple awareness is the first step in putting us back on the path towards happiness.
We should never underestimate the power of a simple thought. It may seem so innocent and fleeting; yet, it has energy that can cause great impact on our mind, body, and emotions.
Let us think of a lemon. Imagine cutting it in half and smelling it. Now, imagine squeezing the juice from the lemon into your mouth and feel those pulp bits bursting inside your mouth. Most of us will surely feel our salivary glands responding to the thought of lemon.
Indeed, what we are thinking can greatly influence our emotions. Think of someone you love. What do you feel? Now think of someone you hate. What do you feel? We do not have to change our emotions consciously – just change our thoughts and our emotions will immediately follow.
Notice that when we focus our minds on positive things, we feel better, whereas when our thoughts are focused on the negative, we feel bad. Positive thoughts yield positive results. These thoughts make us more loving and caring, resulting to good health, wealth, and happiness. On the other hand, negative thoughts produce negative results. These types of thoughts result to indifference, disease, fear and misery, etc. In other words, our thoughts create our reality.
So be aware of your thoughts – that is the way to happiness. The next time you feeling a little low, pause and consider what you were thinking to trigger that feeling and change it accordingly. It’s not going to happen immediately but with practice, we can control the direction our thoughts take.
Wouldn’t it be great if we can have good thoughts throughout the day?
