As the economy changes and hopefully at last shakes off this recession one thing that is not going to come back will be roles. 9.5 million underemployed in the States alone or 10% of the work force.
What does that imply to the man in the street?
It implies that no longer will you be in a position to send in a resume, wiggle your thumbs thru an interview and start work the next week.
What will you want to do? If you hope to find a job you’ll need to be dynamic in your show of yourself and your abilities. You may be competing with many candidates and you have to stand proud.
If you can’t find a job because there are none, as an example in the motor producing sector in America, then you’ll need to give your abilities as a freelancer or expert and your success will dependon how it’s possible for you to present yourself.
One thing is for sure. Shy and retiring isn’t about to do it for you.
And it needn’t be so. Presenting yourself in public, or also known as public speaking can be learnt. This isn’t askill that you are born with and that only a rare number of people have. Mastering Public Speaking – Don’t do it this way July 25, 2009
Posted by janey in : anxiety self help , comments closedAs it is commonly known, mastering public speaking causes more fear, concern and stress than pretty much anything else we ever have to do.
And what makes it even worse?
Public speaking is performing in front of others and you are only as good as your last performance.
And it is a performance isn’t it?
You’re not just chatting. You need a good memory, you need to have apowerful voice, you want to have the right body language and be prepared for any question thrown at you.
Yet mastering public speaking can be simple, if you ignore all the Public Speaking suggestions and rules.
Let me ask you a question :
When you are publicly speaking, what are you trying to do?
What was your answer?
What did the little voice in your head say?
Get a point across?
Sell something?
How about, simply communicate?
Then add to that a bit of enthusiasm and commitment and thatis it, isn’t it?
So are you able to do that?
Naturally, you can. You do that every day when you talk with your pals.
You don’t fear anything when you talk with your buddies, do you?
And I bet you can get real obsessed, occasionally.
So this fear thing is all in our minds.
Here are a few ideas that will help you when mastering public speaking.
Firstly, another question, if I may.
It’s all questions, so far, isn’t it?
But just one more, please.
Have you ever attended a public speaking course or read a public speaking book?
Most folks have and now I want you to forget and dump each thing that you learned.
Because mastering public speaking means breaking some of the guidelines.
And on courses or in books you are normally only taught the guidelines.
So, for instancethe books will say, Don’t put your hands in your pockets. The audience will not like it.
I say, if you want to put your hands in your pockets, do it.
Courses will say write your speech on those small cards and take them onto the stage with you.
I say, bin them.
Courses will say stand behind a lectern.
I say, get out from behind that podium, we wish to see you.
So this is what I would endorse to make your displays stand-out.
When you walk out onto the stage, walk with keenness.
Dress smartly. That’s’s doesn’t suggest a suit and tie or a business suit. Just means be groomed and not scruffy.
Look around the entire room and have eye contact.
Don’t use PowerPoint unless your goal is to send the audience to sleep.
Do not be perfect. Perfect presentations are D-U-L-L, dull.
Be super obsessed about your subject.
If you are making a mistake, and the crowd giggle or laugh, giggle togetherwith them as itwill help you engage with the crowd.
So throw away the public speaking course or book guidelines, start mastering public speaking and wow the crowd.
