How To Make Your Work Environment Produce More August 19, 2010

Since spring is here and the summer is on it’s way it gets more difficult to sit in front of the computer every day and perform the stuff essential to set up a lucrative home based business. In the instance of online marketing, for example, writing articles or reviews and building one-way links becomes less attractive when the outside beckons.

However these are the times when it is especially imperative to respect your agreements with yourself. The longer you allow things to slide the harder it is to start again and the longer it’ll be before you get outcomes that will help to motivate you further. And, in the meantime, there’s the boost in energy that results from observing your agreements, particularly when it took a bit of effort to do so.

When looking for a more productive environment one approach that works for me is to visit my favorite cafe, treat myself to a coffee and put pen to paper there. At the very least I get to take pleasure in the fresh air as I am walking. Of all the “tips” I have for cultivating my writing routine this one is my favorite. I find it very challenging to write in the home, no matter what the season. It’s always similar with any chore I am resisting. There are simply too many things to distract me - too many excuses. However taking myself off to a location I enjoy being in works really well. It’s a big help to my internal motivation.

I find that even when I am really trying hard to write I will usually turn out something when I am in the cafe. Even if it’s not particularly high-quality. I also enjoy writing in the community library (it reminds me of happy university days) and on a seat on the prom overlooking the seashore.

A productive atmosphere is a necessary factor relative to motivation so I endorse playing with what works/doesn’t work out for you. It is not just about physical environment either. I find I can not write, for instance, if there are some songs playing in the background. Orchestral music I can manage but anything with lyrics I can hear and I simply can not focus.

Now and then I find lighting a candle on my computer table helps me to tackle tasks I’ve been pushing aside. I don’t know why. There’s simply something I find consoling about it.

So, I recommend you experiment with different places and environmental conditions and build up a range of conditions that enable you to be more motivated to work on those jobs you have been procrastinating about.
